I have played in a Gamelan orchestra since 1990 when I joined a beginner's class at the South Bank. The experience of performing Classical Indonesian music on such a beautiful instrument is transforming: not only does it enhance one's perception of what music is, it also expands one's entire being.
My teacher, for most of that time has been Nikhil Dally. I have played mainly saron and bonang but am now developing my skills on the rebab.
Over the years, I have performed regularly in the orchestra at their foyer concerts. Naturally, we have got through quite a few pieces during that time.
